The Issues
With Joint Debt (part 3)
Debt Troubles and Issues
You may
have come to a point where you and your spouse are not just
in debt, but you are in debt trouble and your issues are not
good. If you can’t make your bill payments on time and your
creditors are calling, you simply have to come to a quick
decision to fix your problems as soon as possible. The
longer you wait, the worse the situation will definitely
get.
As a
couple or partnership, you can look at debt problems just as
you would as a single person, but keep in mind you have to
be one the same page as someone else – the person you have
acquired the debt problems with. Stop spending at once. You
have to find ways to increase your income. You need to set
yup a good plan as to how to do just that and stick to it.
This plan needs to not only include ways to get current with
bills, but it has to also contain a plan fro how you can
save money and eventually become debt free. Always remember
that it takes both of your commitment to be successful at
whipping out debt problems and debt issues. Yes, there are
two of you that have to agree to a plan and stick to it at
all times. As we have said in the beginning of this
multi-sectioned debt article about joint debt, communication
is a major key to your success along with the ability to be
disciplined. You have to figure things out together.
Together you must stay on track and together you must
achieve your goals. Just as you are a team as a couple, you
have to be a team committed to becoming debt free or at
least out of debt trouble. If you have children or others in
the household (people who are necessarily included legally
in your debt but part of the reason you could be in debt),
you have to include them in your plans to become debt free
or become free of debt issues.
Worth
noting: It is always a great idea to let your friends and
close colleagues understand that you are working on a plan
to become free of debt issues. This way, when you are with
these people, they will not temp you with money spending
ideas such as dining out and taking trips together. This is
not to say that you have to let your friends know of your
personal debt issues and the details of your debt problems,
just let the people close to you know that you are working
to become debt free and are not trying to acquire more debt
problems. Everyone has a friend or co-worker that wants to
go out to eat all the time and such. By informing friends
ahead of time that you are working through spending issues,
you will be setting yourself up for better success and less
temptation to overspend or blow your much needed budget. It
may seem harsh, but you need to let the people you work with
know that you will not be contributing to any extra
expenditure at work such as charitable solicitations and
office gift pools. A great way to save money is to have
potlucks at work instead of eating out all the time. You can
be creative this way so that you do not feel deprived of all
the fun. It is always cheaper to cook something at home to
share with co-workers than it is to eat out. Potlucks
provide a social outlet as well as great food selection.
Variety is important so you do not get sick of sack lunches
and such. Hey, you have to save and you have to eat.
Be sure to
read the next section where we will get even more detailed
about how you can make joint debt better my making it a team
effort to do so.
