Bank Charges Decision Means More
Debt Consolidations
The courts in the United Kingdom have just handed down a ruling
that is not good for the average consumer. There was a court
case involving bank fees that many consumers were planning on
winning, and the courts have found in favor of the banks. This
puts those consumers that were involved in it in a very
precarious position.
Consumers in the United Kingdom had brought a case against the
banks over bank charges that were labeled unfair for things like
overdrafts. This means that all claims against the banks being
suspended in 2007 because the battle had been going on for so
long. The Office of Fair Trading has been working on the case
for many years, but the courts have basically said that they
should not have been.
The Supreme Court said that the Office of Fair Trading did not
have the right to decide whether the charges were valid or not.
This puts millions in a dire predicament, and experts say that
many of them will assuredly be turning to debt consolidation to
handle this news. Many of them are not going to be able to pay
off those charges, which in some cases are thousands of pounds.
Experts say that they expect to see a large increase in the
number of people asking for debt consolidation to help them
manage these debts as well as their existing ones. They believe
that debt consolidation will help them get on the track to being
debt free again, and pay off the fees as they are coming their
way. There is of course an appeal planned, so consumers may have
some time to bide before it happens.
