Merry Early Christmas
It will be a Merry Christmas for some people who undoubtedly felt that it couldn’t get anything other than worse. Thousands of Florida residents were ripped off by a South Florida lawyer who has now been banned from doing any debt consolidation work.
The Hess Kennedy Law Firm and lawyer Laura Hess are allegedly guilty of stealing money from those residents that came to her for help for their debt consolidation problems. Allegedly, she and her firm stole millions of dollars from residents who were simply trying to get out of debt. Instead of making their payments every month, she kept the money for herself.
People gave her money through direct deposits each month and thought that she was paying off their creditors and reducing the amount that they still owed on their debts. However, they did not pay and their credit scores dropped drastically. But all is not lost according to the Florida Attorney General.
Capital One and H.S.B.C. have agreed to forgive the debt that was supposed to be paid – and are going to erase all of their debt. This will enable them to get back on top of their credit instead of starting from scratch. The banks agreed that their clients were trying to pay them off through debt consolidation, and therefore they would be considered paid.
The Broward County Judge that heard the case decided that Hess is banned from practicing debt consolidation for life and will lose her license to practice law in Florida for five years. The state is hoping that other banks will come forward and help out her other victims.
