Overspending is
an Issue
There are many people who get a debt consolidation and they
think all their problems are solved. They now have all of their
credit cards paid off into one debt consolidation loan, and they
are making payments and they are on top of the world. If they
keep going the way that they are, in two or three years they are
going to be completely debt free. Wouldn’t it be nice if it
always worked out that way? However, instead we have those
people who were so busy overspending that they didn’t realize
how much debt they had until they were in over their heads. So
they go get a debt consolidation loan and they pay off their
cards with it and they start making payments on their debt
consolidation loan. Then they realize that they have all of
these credit cards that are now paid off, and they also realize
that there is an event coming up that they need a new dress for.
Or they need shoes for something. Or a haircut and color at the
most expensive salon? Or new tools? The list goes on and on.
The next thing they know they have this debt consolidation that
they have been paying on, but they also have all of their credit
cards racked up again, so they have double the debt. If you are
an overspender the worst thing you can do it get a debt
consolidation and not get rid of your cards. You will simply use
them again and end up in a worse mess than you were before.
Before you get a debt consolidation you need to look at your
spending habits and get a handle on them. Set a budget for
yourself and stick to it. And if you know that you are the kind
of person that will overspend if given the opportunity, pay off
the credit cards and then get rid of them. Keeping them is only
torturing yourself and leaving yourself open to trouble that
your checkbook cannot handle.
