New York Going After Debt Consolidation Companies
There are many companies out there offering assistance with debt
consolidation or settlement and not all of them have your best interest
at heart. Some of them are simply looking to relieve you of what little
money you have left, which is why it is important to be sure that who
ever you go with is reputable. However, that can be difficult in this
day and age to figure out who that might be that might be able to help
you without helping themselves first.
Well the New York Attorney General is just a little tired of those debt
consolidation companies that are out there just to rip off consumers and
they are going after those that seem as though they might be shady. They
are currently investigating fourteen different debt consolidation
companies and have secured subpoenas for all of them.
They are going to review all of their books to see how they are
assisting those that need their help, and they are checking to see if in
this time of need they are really helping them with their debt
consolidation needs. They are afraid that they are simply taking
advantage of those people who have come to them for help by charging
them fees to do things that they could get done for free.
They are aware that many consumers are turning to debt consolidation as
a way to try and fix their debt problems and that many of these people
have no jobs and no excess income to throw away. They are going to
review all of their company business and financial records to see who is
living up to their promises and who is not.
