Repayment Plans
So you have gotten into debt and you have no idea how to get out
of it. You look at your credit card bills and you just can’t pay
them all back what they want right now. You look and you see
that you might be able to pay something back, perhaps a little
here and there, but you can’t pay back everything – and you
can’t make your minimum payment. So what do you do? Not pay
anything? Ignore your creditors? No – you have to call them and
let them know that you need a repayment plan.
Repayment plans are a great way to help yourself get out of debt
in today’s economy. Most creditors have some form of this, as
they know that you might not be able to pay it all back, but you
can probably pay back some. After all, they just want their
money back – and if this means that you can pay a little here
and there – they will take it.
What you do is contact your creditors and let them know that you
are willing to pay but cannot. You can then tell them what you
are able to pay on a monthly basis, and let them know that this
is the max. See if they can work with you on interest charged,
because if you are making a payment that is less than the
monthly interest you are pretty much wasting your time. Once you
start paying that monthly amount each month, you will find that
they are willing to work with you as well. They want a good
solution – and they want your money.
If they will not work with you, and sometimes they won’t – you
might want to look into a debt consolidation. This will combine
your bills into one monthly loan, and you then pay it back. This
debt consolidation usually has a lower interest charge so you
can pay back less of that and more of your principal, and they
are usually willing to work with you on a loan term. Most debt
consolidations are for 4 or 5 years, but some will go longer so
that you can get the payment that you need in order to get debt
free as well as stress free.
