Tips for
Finding Good Debt Assistance
There are five things that you should really do when you are
looking into a debt consolidation or debt assistance company of
any kind. If you follow these steps you will find that you are
working with a good company and that you can trust them to
handle your personal information.
First you want referrals. If you know someone that has used a
debt consolidation or counseling service ask them what they
thought of the company that they are using. Ask around to see if
anyone knows of anyone that might be able to help you, and vice
versa – if they know of any places that should be avoided at all
costs. Once you have a company in mind, ask the company
themselves for referrals. Call them and talk to them and ask
them what their experience was like. Secondly you want to find
them in the Better Business Bureau’s ratings and see what kinds
of problems they have had. If you find a lot of them, you might
want to change companies.
Once you think you have who you want, set up an interview with
them and meet them in person if you can. Most of these companies
won’t be near you, so do a phone interview instead. Ask them
about their company and if they keep trying to push you into a
plan instead of telling you all the details about their service,
thank them for their time and hang up. You also want to search
for them online. Type in the name of the company, and see what
comes up. The company should have a website – if they don’t that
could be a red flag. In this day and time every company that is
worth anything has a web site that you can check them out on.
Finally you have to ask them what the fees are that are
involved. They have to tell you exactly what you are paying for
and how their fees involved. If anything doesn’t make sense –
walk away. Take into consideration that many companies don’t
charge a fee at all, which is something you might want to
consider when deciding who you want to go with.
