Student Loan
Forgiveness
There are options for those that are now out of college and
finding themselves saddled with student loans that they cannot
pay back. Sometimes the education that you got is more expensive
than the career that you chose pays, and sometimes it is simply
a matter of there not being enough jobs in your industry.
Unfortunately in this economy it is more often the case that you
are out of college but are unable to find a job in your chosen
field. Then six months out of college the student loan bills
start coming in and you are left without the ability to pay
them.
But you have some options with your bills. If you are currently
looking for work, or not making enough to pay the bills you can
get a deferment or an economic hardship while you try to
increase the amount of money that you make. There are also
options like working in a public service job for a certain
number of years. If you work as a teacher in a low income area
or in a disadvantaged school you can get your student loans
reduced. There are also options where depending on the job if
you work it for ten years you can have the remainder of your
loans forgiven by the government. There are other jobs where you
have to wait 25 years for forgiveness as well.
Then there are the options of certain debt consolidation
programs where they will forgive the remainder of your debt
after 25 years of paying at least 15% of your income to the
government. There are rules and restrictions that go along with
this as well, but you get the point. There are many options out
there for those with student loans and an inability to pay them
back right away or to make the full payment. Simply put, if you
are in over your head check out a student loan debt
consolidation or call your lenders to see what might be able to
be worked out.
