Alert for Senior Citizens
The Better Business Bureau wants to warn their senior citizens
of a new scam as it seems to be targeting them. They are getting
a bunch of calls from the elderly that say that they are going
to get a “free grant” from President Obama. All they have to do
is give them your credit card number and pay a fee for the
grant. It is sad to think that people are so pathetic that they
would target the elderly instead of just going and getting a
real job.
Be careful if you get any calls from anyone offering you free
money. This is almost always a bunch of junk. First of all,
grants are free money to start with – they do not have to be
paid back – so there is no need to call them free. Secondly you
do not normally get a grant from the government unless you
applied for one for some sort of program that you are running.
These are made to help those out that are running some sort of
service.
The BBB is recommending that if anyone calls you and offers you
help with any debt consolidation, free money, etc. that you call
your local BBB to see if they have ever even heard of them as
chances are that they are a scam. Not only that, but you should
never give your credit card information to anyone over the phone
that you do not know as they might be trying to steal your
identity.
