Repairing Poor Credit

There are companies out there that advertise credit report repair. They claim that you can pay them and they will fix your credit. Firstly, anything they can do, you can do with out having to pay someone to do it for you. Secondly, no one can remove anything from your credit report that should be there. Many will claim they can, but they cannot.

When repairing your credit you will need to request a copy of your credit report. Take a good look at it to make sure that it is accurate. If there are items that should have fallen off by now and they haven’t, check the dates – and if they are over 7 years old contact the credit agency and have them removed.  Make sure that the amount reported on each item is correct as well, and that there hasn’t been any fraudulent activity. Once you find any inaccuracies, report them to the Credit Reporting Agency (CRA). They will spend the next 30 days investigating the claim, and if it is not correct they must remove it from your credit.

If you have poor credit in that you don’t have a lot of credit to report, you can always call the credit accounts that you do have and ask them to report your credit history to the CRA. This will help to fill out your credit report some, and show possible lenders that you are a responsible adult. By all means, however, once you have all of your accounts cleared up and your report looks positive, be sure to keep your accounts in good standing by paying your bills on time, etc.  ■
