| Know Your Credit Report Rights: The Right to Sue Many individuals do not know their rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This federal law not only outlines consumers’ rights in relation to their credit report, but also outlines specifications for credit reporting agencies. This is a five part series that looks at consumer rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Sue if Your Rights are Violated If any of your consumer rights, as stated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and briefly overviewed in this series, are violated, you also have the right to sue. The FCRA regulates the following: credit reporting agencies, furnisher of information to the credit reporting agencies, or a person/business using your credit report. If any of these businesses violate your rights, you have the right to sue in either state or federal court.
