Obtaining a Copy

Many individuals do not know their rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  This federal law not only outlines consumers’ rights in relation to their credit report, but also outlines specifications for credit reporting agencies.  This is a five part series that looks at consumer rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Obtaining a Copy of Your Credit Report:
You can request a free copy of your credit report


once a year from each credit reporting agency.

if your report is inaccurate due to fraud/ID theft.

if you have been denied credit based on your credit report

if you are unemployed and plan to look for work within 60 days.

if you are on welfare.

You have the right to request your credit report and score at any point in time for a reasonable fee.
