Credit and
Identity Theft
It is horrible to think that there are people out there that are
simply looking to steal not just your money, but your identity
from you – yet this is exactly what is going on. These people
have no moral compass to tell them that this is wrong, and
ultimately you are the one who pays for it. However, the biggest
problem is that this can go on for a very long period of time
without you knowing it. You are living your life as normal, and
the next thing you know you apply for a mortgage or maybe a car
loan and you get turned down for excessive debt to income ratio
or you have bad credit.
Only then do you think to check your credit as you are sure this
is a mistake, and here you are with all of these credit cards
and what not, all in your name – except that you never
authorized any of them. You then have to go through the hassle
of getting a police report and taking care of cleaning up your
credit. This is a process that takes forever, as you have to
make sure that each individual account is notified and you have
to make sure that there are no additional accounts opened after
that.
It is not fair to think that you have to go through all of this,
but it is necessary if someone steals your identity. You have to
be careful about who you give your information to, and you have
to be diligent about checking your credit report to ensure that
no one has done this to you.
