Identity Theft at Work
There are those people out there that no matter what they are
going to be the scum of the earth. They are going to look for
ways of ripping you off – and won’t stop until they are
successful. These are the people who might not jump you in an
alley and hit you over the head with a pipe or shoot you for
your purse, but they will bring you harm just the same by
stealing your identity. These people find various ways of
availing themselves of your credit card information, social
security number, etc. and then they run up your credit cards,
take out more in your name and social security number, and
generally ruin your credit rating as they just don’t care about
anyone other than themselves and they are too lazy to get a real
job.
The latest scam is in connection with the 2010 census. If you
have gotten your census in the mail, you have to take care that
it is not a fake one and that you are returning the real thing.
The Nevada Attorney General says that there are thousands of
these forms going out, and most victims do not check their
credit on a regular basis so they are perfect prey for these
thieves. There are some that are even coming door to door to get
your info, so you must be sure to be cautious when dealing with
these people.
The forms were mailed out in early March, so if you are getting
a census form now, it is probably a fake one. Do not fill out
any forms that ask for your social security number, and do not
give that information to the people at the door as they are not
legally allowed to ask it. All they will ask is things like how
many people in the house – nothing personal.
