Greed is a Major Factor
There are two kinds of greed in the debt consolidation industry
– consumers’ and company’s. The consumer wants to get something
for nothing and the company wants to do pretty much the same
thing. However, in the debt consolidation industry you see much
more of this than anywhere else as it is the one place that
offers perfect fodder for it.
Consumers, caught up by their own greed, see these ads for
people who are going to “legally wipe out your debt” or “reduce
your debt up to 75%” or any one of a million claims. They think
that if they can get out of the debt that they have racked up it
is worth paying a portion of it to someone else. The company’s
greed comes in the form of the debt consolidation companies
themselves. They make these outlandish offers and then charge
you up front for services that they may or may not perform. They
tell you that they are going to reduce your debt and fix your
credit, but many times they are simply taking your money.
The consumer, caught up by their greed, pays the company and
waits for the miracle to happen. Guess what? The miracle never
comes. The unfortunate part is that it is not always greed that
factors in on the consumers’ part – quite often it is
desperation that is the contributing factor. They are willing to
pay anything to get out from the burden as they know that they
cannot pay it off as is. For the companies? It is always greed.
