Americans Need to Be More
Careful
According to a recent poll, most Americans have not looked at
their credit score, nor their credit report, in several years.
They take for granted that nothing is going on there, and so
they don’t worry about it until they are turned down for
something that they thought that they would be approved for. The
problem is that in this economy experts say that there have been
even more cases of identity theft as people have become more
desperate to bring in money however they can.
But Americans need to make it their job to ensure that their
identities are not being exploited and should check their credit
reports at the very minimum once a year. If they find that there
are errors on it, it is best to take care of them right away and
get them cleared up. The longer that they are on your report the
harder they are to get off of the report, and the more they drag
down your credit score.
Experts say that once you discover that someone has stolen your
identity that you should call the police and get a case number.
You will need this case number to refute many of the items on
your credit report, as some of the creditors listed will not
believe that you did not take out the credit card, etc. on your
own. Once you have the police report, you have to systematically
go about changing all of your information and letting them know
that these are not your bills.
