Visa has recently launched a tour, teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce, to educate small businesses on the importance of data security. This is a tad ironic considering two of the largest consumer personal information security breaches happened to Visa.
Visa’s security breaches both involved third-party payment processors. The first major breach occurred in mid-2005 with CardSystems—this breach involved hackers accessing 40 million consumer accounts and personal information. The second occurred more recently and involved more hacking, and Visa ended up replacing hundreds of credit and debit cards. ■
