Mortgage equity withdrawal (MEW) has fluctuated recently. Breaking $1 trillion last year, the annualized rate went back down to just over $900 billion. MEW is the proceeds from a variety of things, including home equity borrowing.
This rate may drop drastically over the next couple of years due to a drop in home price inflation. And though MEW has increased to $930 billion, refinancing and home equity borrowing are slowing as turnover increases. ■
