There are a small percentage of Americans out there who actually have no debt. No debt?! How can this be? Easy, they don’t spend money they don’t have. When credit card companies flood their mailboxes with offers they don’t need or want, they rip them in half – most of us actually open them and then apply for them.
Instead of keeping up with the Jones’, they buy what they need. They don’t run up debts and then consolidate and rack up more debts. They have appliances that are a little older than most, a car that might not be the right-off-the-line model, and their house isn’t too big for them to live in or afford. Everything is just right. They save up for things they need, and don’t take vacations they can’t afford. They buy the necessities, and nothing more.
Now if this sounds crazy to you, think how crazy it sounds to have a pile of debt you can’t afford just so you can have extra stuff to make you look good. Now who is the crazy one? ■
