In addition to the laptop thefts recently losing consumer information by the FTC and Equifax, ING Financial Services reported that 13,000 employee names and Social Security numbers were lost. It is still unclear whether the laptop was stolen for the employee information or other information contained in the laptop.
Following what most companies seem to do when they loose vital consumer information, ING offered free credit monitoring services and a letter of notice to the employees affected by the theft.
This is not ING’s first lost laptop; 8,500 workers in Florida were affected and exposed to potential identity fraud. ■
