You Might Still Have to Live with Your Ex
So you leave your husband or your wife – only to move into the
bedroom next door? This may seem silly, but experts are saying
that it is becoming a very real trend. They say that without a
debt management system of some kind, many couples are being
forced to live together after splitting up or divorcing as they
cannot afford to live apart. Now in some cases this is good, as
it might cause them to work toward their relationship and maybe
they won’t break up at all. But in other cases it simply
prolongs the pain of the break up of the marriage or
relationship.
The charity Shelter in the United Kingdom says that this is
exactly what is happening. They say that there is a lack of
affordable housing in the UK, so without a debt management plan
couples end up having to continue to live together. The charity
says that 9.9 million people, or a quarter of their population,
know someone who has had to stay with someone just because they
could not afford to live apart.
The government says that most separation and divorces start
right after the holidays – but they find themselves unable to
move on in terms of housing. So not only is housing a very real
problem, and one of the major sources of arguments for couples
already, but now they are stuck living in the situation that
they are probably partially getting divorced for.
But they say that there is hope. They say that talking to a debt
counselor about debt consolidation or management will make the
transition easier. You might find out a way to get out of the
situation after all, and still be able to keep your sanity.
