Federal Ways to Consolidate Student Loan Debt

There are many different ways to go about handling a student loan debt consolidation. Many people probably don’t realize that there are many different companies out there that handle a student loan debt consolidation but the government does as well. Ex-President Bill Clinton made the first strides to make debt consolidation easier as well as student loan pay outs – and the system has been working fairly well ever since.

Clinton started his plan at several schools across the nation; Rutgers University was one of them. What used to take four to five months to get the student loans processed at the schools, now took 2 weeks. It was simply amazing to see what could be done. When it came time for graduation, they also gave you the tips and tricks on how to handle your student loans.

The program for student loan debt consolidation that the federal government set up is still one of the best around. You can make set payments for a specific period of time, or you can have them take 15% of your income for 20 years. Anything you haven’t paid off at the end of 20 years will be written off. It was a beautiful plan.

They also took student loans from any source into their debt consolidation program – which worked out nicely as then you didn’t have to worry about paying off different debt consolidation plans as well. Student loan debt consolidations through the government also gave you leeway that you just didn’t have before as a borrower. If you have student loans today and are not sure what you should do, check into a federal student loan debt consolidation and you might find that you are very glad that you did.
