Somerset Residents Get Warned
Somerset County Council is warning their residents about debt consolidation
companies and the havoc they can reek on already shaky finances. There are
many companies out there that are calling themselves debt consolidation
companies and pretty much promising consumers the world – however, the want
you to be warned against them.
They say that with many of these debt consolidation companies, if you don’t
go with a reputable one you could end up paying more than what you
originally borrowed plus interest. The debt consolidation business is
booming, but much of that has to do with the fact that the economy is
tanking. People are out of work, out of money, and out of ideas – so they
are turning to any company that promises them that they can help, and in
many cases ending up worse than when they started.
Some of these debt consolidation companies are really out there for the
greater good. These companies want you to get out of debt and they want see
you start on the right path to getting debt free. They help you set up a
budget, figure out what you can pay, etc. and next thing you know you have
the ability to manage your own finances.
But then there are the groups that take your money, or get you even farther
in over your head, and these groups are not looking out for your best
interest. These groups get you deeper into debt and charge you a fee for
doing so. Either that or they tell you to pay them and they will pay your
bills for you – in this case you want to run as far as possible from them.
Many of these kinds of scam artists take your payment and pocket it instead
of assisting you with getting debt free.
