How to Get Out of a Financial Hole
For those of you who already have too much debt and then spent too much at
the holidays, there is hope – but you have to get serious about your debt.
The time for pretending that it isn’t as bad as it is has come to an end and
there is no time like the present to get on it and work towards getting debt
free.
For many people it is as simple as getting a debt consolidation and getting
control of all of the money that is going out. For others there is more work
to be done if you are going to seriously work on it this year. There is the
idea that somehow your debt will handle itself, but it won’t. You have to
make a concerted effort to get on top of it and handle it, or you will end
up not being able to do much more than file bankruptcy.
If your debt is past the debt consolidation stage and you just don’t know
what to do next – bills are piling up and with no job, or whatever your
situation is, there is no hope – you may want to look into a bankruptcy and
get a clean slate. However, for those that might not be there yet, a debt
consolidation is usually a good place to get started.
You can also talk to your various creditors and see if they will take less
than what you can afford to pay. In this economy you will find that there
are a lot of people who are willing to take a portion of the money owed them
so that they at least get something. Talk to your creditors and see what
they are willing to do for you, and then get a debt consolidation and pay it
all off.
