Debt reduction on the top of consumer resolution list for 2007

January 1, 2007

As the New Year makes it debut, 2007 seems to be the year of consumer debt reduction - or so people say anyway. Our debt free news personnel have read a new poll that says consumers are putting their finances and personal health and fitness on the top of their resolution list this year. While we have said from the beginning of this debt free websites creation, personal wealth leads to personal health. We are not saying that having a ton of cash will make your health issues disappear, we are saying that when you have your personal debt and finances under control and become responsible with your debt and money – you will be less stressed and less likely to have illness related to stress.

The poll that we read today says that when hundreds of people were asked what their New Year’s resolution was for the year 2007 – they replied debt control of their finances and getting into shape physically. While many of our debt free article readers may know already is that just about 90% of the people you ask about resolutions will say they will lose weight and or save more money.

Well, for this year it is reported in the news today that nearly 16 million adults are predicting that they will say their resolution is just that – to get into shape and get their debt under control – we shall see.

These days, consumers are tending to be dealing with substantial problems surrounding their debt and how to become debt free or at least less in debt. In the day and age when looks are on everyone’s mind it seems – getting into shape is the main concern with financial stability coming in second. One would think getting debt under control would be the most important which could then lead to health and physical well being anyway right?

According to the new poll, 21% of the people polled said they intend to get their financial affairs in the right during the year 2007. Another 20$ say health and fitness with a barrage of other resolutions that follow the top two. Some people say they want to travel more in the New Year – we wonder if they will go into further bad debt by doing so.

AN overwhelming amount of people say they plan to spend less money and save more. Getting control of personal debt and becoming debt free is getting harder and harder for consumers who are constantly offered new credit cards and the like.
Also, if 2006’s trends are repeated, we will see no such debt reduction happening as 2006 was a banner year for bad debt problems. In fact, when you compare this year’s resolution poll to the same one last year – more than 50% of the people who vowed to get their finances and debt under control – broke their resolution by June.

Here is to hoping our debt free readers take this statistic to heart and learn from past debt problems truly.

The worst statistic we found in this new poll that we almost do not want to report to our debt free article readers is that well over 2 million people broke there better debt resolutions the very first day in 2006.
