Dealings with debt arise in the news (part 2)

January 14, 2007

We are certainly not saying that all college students do not deserve boarding – we are just saying that bad debt will continue to rise in record numbers if we do not address this politically. Debt free lifestyle achievers will agree that bad debt – even if it is not from you – affects you via the economy.

According to the economic report released this week, unless the serious look is taken into consideration, in the next decade we could be faced with a serious breakdown in bad school loan debt and more.

At the beginning of the Fall Semester in 2006, it was announced that major colleges would be sharing a new slew of money from the government totaling two hundred forty million dollars for financial aid applicants. When you break that down – it is certainly not a lot and certainly not a enough. Not even enough to put a dent in the statistics of college students that are staring down the barrel at credit card debt. We are talking about credit card debt that comes with a monthly bill folks. According to the report an overwhelming amount of students are struggling with their grades and even finances due to having to work full time while attending school full time – just to pay off their credit card debt from their living expenses while in school.

The economic report that came out this week even stated that students were extremely candid about how they paid fro school expenses. Even well to do student were open about the fact that they received more money that they necessarily needed via grants and loans that did not have to be repaid. They simply said that they had no idea why they qualified when their friends who have less money did not.

What’s more, this same report goes on to say that some students have been attending college for up to nine years on financial aid. Our debt free news department was amazed when we read this section of the economic report.

All this - while some students are acquiring nearly a hundred thousand dollars of repayable loans just to get a 4 year degree – in an actual time period of 4 years in fact. This stat is regarding higher education loans and not necessarily credit card debt.

We are certainly reading that debt has its secrets in this debt free news article aren’t we. Why all of this debt taking place if it is not necessarily being hidden. Students are candid, reports are candid – so why has the government not stepped in further to close these holes in the system? After all, debt affects us all remember.

The issue of personal debt, debt consolidation and even bad debt needs to be put on the front burner.

According to this report (and this is a big deal) the schools that these students attend – the ones with large amount of grants and other non repayable loans are home to overwhelming amounts of wealthy students who really do not need them. This according to the financial report, is the main reason less financially fortunate higher education candidates are not getting their degrees.
