 | | | | | | | Debt Free 24 - News Updates: January 2007 Archives | | Debt Free News Dealings with debt arise in the news (part 1) January 14, 2007 When it comes to living a better debt free life straight out of college in this world, many of us are wondering what the real deal is with debt. In the news this week many advisors are reporting answers to this. In fact, in this day and age, college grads are swiftly coming to terms with the fact that student aid can make or break a choice to attend university and remain out of serious credit card debt and school loan debt. Even though many of us have concerns about how to qualify for such loans, we are shocked to learn that the way you get approved is arbitrary. Chances are, if you were to walk into any coffee shop located near any college campus, you would be able to interview at least one or two struggling students who are already buried in credit card debt before they even get their degrees. Most students struggling with debt and credit card problems will tell you a handful of reasons why they have such debt. One major reason that is being reported this week in the debt free news world is that grants and other loans students are not needing to pay back – are sliding away into the abyss. In fact, most college students who depend on these such grants to get through school are finding themselves out of luck. This year, students are noticing they do not continue to get the grants they did the year before – and they are still stuck in the middle of obtaining their degrees and they have no other real choice but to take out an expensive loan and or live off of their credit cards – the ones that showed up in the mail without applying for them that is. Oh yeah – back to the ways these grant are achieve is even more compelling. It is not like the old days where if you where poor you got a grant – or if you had a certain GPA – you got a grant that you did not have to pay back. In fact, if you have at least one parent living in the proximity of your college – you are left out of boarding qualifications in many schools when it comes to non debt grants and other such loans. No matter what the economic status of your family either. It is amazing to our debt free news department that if you come from money and your parents do not live in the area – you qualify for boarding in many schools but even if you are poor and at least one parent lives in the vicinity – you do not. Even if the house is crowded as well – it does not matter. It does not matter. This is where students get stuck with more debt than necessary too. These are the same student who sometimes struggle too much and drop out because they do not have the resources they need to succeed – and they are still stuck with the debt according to the reports in the economic news this week. In the news this week – this is a hot topic. How can we expect the younger generation to fully succeed in debt and debt free living if we do no set them up for success? How can we expect the consumer debt related to higher education and credit card debt from school expenses to wane if the system has holes – big holes too.
