Debt Consolidation Scams Abound
In this time of financial strife you see some truly heroic
acts: the man who puts his last dollar in the Salvation Army
box, the woman who buys food for the homeless shelter and
will go with less because of it, etc. Unfortunately though,
you will also find the scam artists at work, and instead of
getting a real job, they will attempt to prey on those that
need help the most.
There are some very reputable debt consolidation companies
out there, but unfortunately there are just as many, if not
more, scams out there lying in wait. You have to be very
careful before you allow just anyone into your finances, and
even then try to pick someone that you know has helped
someone you personally know. The idea of a friend of a
friend of a friend got help from them is not really good
enough in this day and age.
Many debt consolidation or settlement scams come from those
that offer to make your payments for you. They will say that
they will repair your credit by making all of your monthly
payments for you, all you have to do is send them the money.
This is almost always a scam for most debt settlement
companies will help you settle, but then you will pay down
the debt yourself. Debt consolidation companies will simply
help you get a debt consolidation loan, then leave you to
pay on the loan.
With most people who need a debt consolidation or settlement
in a desperate way, these are the people that are most often
taken as they are looking for a quick fix. Know that if it
sounds too good to be true, it almost always is. Check your
facts first, then proceed with caution.
