Airlines cutting their fares in post holiday fashion
December 27, 2006
Just as any of our debt free article readers may have
already understood about post holiday spending, airfares are
being slashed - at least for the time being after the New
Year. Why not cut costs? It is not the busiest time for
travel since everyone is heading back home after the
Holidays right? So, following in the usual steps for post
holiday travel enticement,
United Airlines (UAL)
has created its after the holidays fare slashing.
During the slow travel period of the year, the airline is
gunning fo ryour business by cutting its airline tickets to
many of its destinations. Because of UAL’s price
discounting, many other air carriers are following right
behind to compete. So, if you have any extra money from your
debt free savings funds and you have somewhere to go, do it
during this period.
When we looked into the fares at UAL, we noticed some one
way fares that are bought before January 7th (as part of a
round trip service taken before March 7th), were as low as
under $110. In fact, if you live in Washington DC and have
business or leisure needs in the Chicago area – you can get
there for under $50. We are seeing this as one of our best
fares in many years fro this route and our debt free news
hounds out there should take advantage if they can.
These new low airfares were released yesterday afternoon by
United. By this afternoon, we see that American Airlines is
following suit with its own airfare cuts. Consumers have to
like this type of competition. Also cutting airfares today
is Northwest Airlines, Delta, and US Airways to name a few.
Now, if you have been a air traveler many times in the past
years, you know that this is a typical time for air travel
to be very inexpensive – so why not use this knowledge to
plan your next vacation in true debt free fashion. Think of
the ways you can save by taking advantage of this fo next
year if you can. Since we have seen this happen year after
year right after the holidays, consider taking your holiday
after the holiday season is over.
While it is not the easiest to take the kids out of school,
you can be creative by planning way ahead for this type of
situation. The savings are worth it. Hotel prices are low as
well for this time of year – right after the holidays with
the exception of winter getaway climates.
Off peak travel saves you hundreds of dollars since the
competition for your business is fierce. You just have to
prepare ahead of time and take advantage of the prices as
soon as they are cut.
In most cases, these tickets must be be bought 2 weeks ahead
of your travel time. There are other restrictions such as
2-3 day stay requirements so be aware.
Also, many airlines make up for this off season slashing of
airfares by hiking up their one way ticket prices a bit.
Typically the one way fares are not hugely increased but
they are. Look into it and save the debt free way.
