How to do it Without Destroying Your Credit
There are ways of handling debt that will take your credit to a
better place, and then there are some that will only make it
worse. If you have a lot of debt you have a decision to make as
to how you will handle that debt. If you have a lot of debt and
you don’t know how to handle it, you have plenty of options out
there. But some will definitely hurt you while others will help.
Bankruptcy for instance will not help your credit score but will
get you debt free. There is a trade off here that you might want
to consider. If you have no way of paying back your debt, then
this might be the way to go – and it does give you a fresh start
in terms of getting debt free. It will ruin your credit, but you
can’t get something for nothing. Then there is the case where
you could pay back some of your debt but not all of it. Then a
debt consolidation with a settlement can help you get debt free,
but again, it will hurt your credit. This is not as bad as if
you had a bankruptcy, but you will have a black mark on your
credit.
Then there is the plain debt consolidation which will not hurt
your credit. Instead, as you pay down your debt you will see
your credit getting better, as long as you cancel the credit
cards that you have paid off. You only really need one credit
card for assistance and emergencies – the rest can go away. Your
credit score will get better if you do.
