Debt Checklists
If you are facing a debt crisis, there are a few things that you
can do to make life a little easier on yourself. The first thing
you are going to do is create a check list of things that you
can do to handle your debt. The first thing you want to do is
plan out what the action is that you are going to do. As soon as
you know that you are going to be missing payments, you want to
call your creditors and let them know. If you are already behind
in your payments you should still call them because they are not
going to go away.
Try to work out a payment arrangement with them that you can
afford. If they are not willing to take anything less than what
you can pay, then you might want to look into a debt
consolidation loan. A debt consolidation will take all of the
payments that you are making to your creditors and put them into
one loan, which you will then use to pay everyone else off. This
debt consolidation loan usually has a lower interest rate than
what you have been paying and is spread out over a specific
period of time. This will get you lower payments and enable you
to pay off your debt faster.
If you do manage to work out a payment arrangement with your
creditors, put it in writing. Keep all records to show that you
tried to work out a deal with them even if they are unwilling to
meet you half way. This way if there are legal issues later on
you have proof that you tried to handle it, but that they were
unwilling and therefore you did all that you could.
