Credit Card Debt in
the Billions
The amount of money that Americans have on their credit cards is
astounding. According to one recent report, the credit card debt
that we hold as a country is $864.4 billion. This is down from
$866.1 billion that it was in January of 2009. However, this is
still an extremely high amount of money. The report said that
this was the sixteenth month in a row that revolving credit –
which is mostly credit cards – has declined, which is a positive
note.
There are several reasons why the debt has reduced, and a lot of
it has to do with how people are managing their debt. Some
people are opting to get a debt consolidation loan and pay down
their debt faster, some have stopped spending, and some have
declared bankruptcy. A large portion of those that have stopped
spending have also gotten a debt consolidation loan to pay down
their debts as well. The fact of the matter is that Americans
are tired of being in debt and want to pay it off.
By making the choices that they are, and working hard to get
their debt down – through debt consolidation or management plans
– they are making a choice to get debt free. There are many
companies that can help with that process, and many are using
them – but remember – most of them cannot do for you what you
cannot do for yourself to get out of debt. So don’t pay someone
to get a debt consolidation loan when you can do it on your own.
