Paying Off
Credit Card Debt
It is not easy to pay down credit card debt. For many people
they have been using these plastic cards to survive on and they
are not sure how to not use them anymore. The first thing you
have to do is know what you are putting your money on – and that
starts with the credit card agreement that you signed when you
got a credit card. You need to look at whatever charges you pay
yearly or monthly, how much interest you pay, etc. so that you
know where your money is going.
Then you need to create a budget for yourself. You need to
figure out how much money you have and how much you can start
sending towards your cards. If you have more than one, and more
than $5K in debt spread across them, you might want to look into
a debt consolidation. This will put all of your debt into one
monthly payment, and it usually has a lower interest rate as
well.
Now that you have your debt consolidation that goes into your
budget. Pay off as much as you can each month in addition to
your regularly scheduled payment, and you will be debt free
before you know it. Or, if you don’t have the extra money to put
toward it, you can always simply stick to the pay off schedule
and don’t put anything else on your credit cards. If you have a
tendency to rack them up as soon as you start paying them off,
you are going to want to get rid of the cards all together. By
keeping the credit cards you are simply keeping yourself in a
debt spiral that no debt consolidation can get you out of.
