Article 7 – Reviewing your financial progress (Part 1)

How often you review your financial plan depends on how old you are, what kind of planning you have decided on, and what life event you are planning for. In many cases an annual review of your financial plan is adequate. If you have recently started the process, however, or if you have some significant financial problems, a more frequent review will be in order. Many people find a monthly review to be very helpful. When problems are severe, even a weekly review of your plan may be needed. But for the most part, a yearly review will serve you well.

When you are reviewing your financial plan ask your self the following: Have your financial goals remained the same? Are you meeting your budget requirements? Are you earning the investment rates of return you anticipated? To what degree is inflation affecting your finances? Has your tax situation changed?

By coming up with honest answers to the above questions while reviewing your financial plan, you will be able to decide whether your financial assumptions have been correct and whether your overall situation has changed in any way.

Do you need a professional planner?

Although this debt free website may serve you well in planning your financial future, no single source of readable can answer all of our visitors’ needs. For this reason, you may consider hiring a financial professional at some point or for some specific need when planning your financial future.

When should you seek help from a financial planner? One determining factor is your level of income. If you are making $30,000 a year, for instance, you will most likely not need to hire outside help. On the other hand, if you make that amount and you are about to go bankrupt, you well benefit from a professional planner’s advice. There are 3 main reasons to consult a professional planner. They are confirmation, detailed guidance, and financial planning for the very beginning of your journey.

Confirmation

Say you are able to set your own financial course, and you do a good job of it. But, there is still a need for you to become completely assured of these abilities. If you want to sense of confirmation that a professional can provide, a financial planner can check your work and basically give you advice on how to tweak your numbers even better in many cases. Financial soundness will let you sleep at night and make you feel confident in other aspects of your life as well.
